Dressing the Mother of the Bride

Dressing the Mother of the Bride

Mothers of the bride and groom are often the hardest people to dress on a wedding day, mostly because they spend the whole process thinking about everyone else.

Start with the palette, not the dress

The outfit should sit beautifully beside the bridal party without matching it. We ask for the bridesmaid colours, the flowers and the venue before we discuss shape.

Comfort is not a compromise

You will be greeting guests for hours, sitting through a ceremony and dancing at the end of it. Built in support, sleeves that let you move and a fabric that does not crease when you sit are all designed in.

Coverage on your terms

Full sleeves, a covered back, a higher neckline or a matching jacket. Coverage is designed into the pattern so it never looks like a shawl added at the last minute.

Shapes that work

A tailored dress with a matching jacket, a softly draped gown with a defined waist, or an elegant two piece that can be re worn separately afterwards.

Timing

Book at least three months before the wedding. Mothers usually leave it last, and that is when we are busiest with bridal gowns for the same date.
