What Happens at a Wedding Dress Fitting

What Happens at a Wedding Dress Fitting

Fittings are the part of the process brides look forward to most, and the part they know least about. Here is exactly what to expect.

Fitting one, the structure

The gown appears in a raw state, often unlined and hand tacked. We check balance, bodice length, bust placement and how the skirt hangs from your waist. Do not be alarmed by pins and chalk. This is the fitting that does the most work.

Fitting two, the refinement

The gown is now assembled. We refine the fit through the ribcage and hip, confirm sleeve length and movement, set the hem in your actual shoes and place any embellishment.

Fitting three, the finish

A final check with veil, undergarments and accessories. We practise sitting, walking and lifting your arms. By this point changes should be small.

How to prepare

Bring the exact underwear and shoes you will wear. Come with hair roughly as planned for the final fitting. Bring one trusted person rather than an audience, and eat beforehand.

Say what you feel

If something feels tight, itchy or wrong, say it in the room. Everything is adjustable while the gown is with us, and nothing is adjustable the week of your wedding.
